Rest is One of The Ways You Take Your Power Back
According to research, it has been revealed that rest enhances cardiovascular health. It also lowers cortisol and blood pressure levels. Lifestyle today is largely characterised by anxiety and stress. This seems to be in a quest to achieve more and be more productive. Constant effort to get more stuff done in record time has made most people overworked. People have become trapped in the never-ending cycle of work, more work and even more work.
Life is not a marathon or a continuous slog. It is a series of sprints. The quality of rest you get goes a long way to determine the quality of your next sprint. The body wasn’t built to be in never-ending motion. It was designed to work, stop and rest. What rest actually does to your body is to repair and refresh itself to begin work again.
The truth of the matter is, when people get themselves overworked, they become counterproductive. At the end of the day, the desired result being productivity is fallen short of. Some people insist on working extra shifts in order to make ends meet. This seems sensible, considering the demand to cater for daily needs. Often times, being busy is perceived to mean productivity. Sadly, this is not the case. Rest is essential for overall health and happiness.
However, if you insist on working continuously at maximum capacity, it would catch up with you. You would eventually burn out. When you don’t ensure your body has adequate rest, you become exhausted and then you fall sick. Your body would not take permission from you to break down. This forces you to take compulsory rest because you have no other choice anyway.
