Influence of Technology on Unemployment

Digital technology can be a blessing and a curse both personally and in the workplace. Technological revolution has however, brought about many obvious benefits to the smooth running of organizations. At the same time, it is reducing the need for people in many jobs.

Over the years, before technology became widely used in many organizations, people were well employed to work and could perform their work effectively with their skills. But due to the drastic and widely use of technology, it has become the problem behind the sluggish employment growth. Technology has allowed a substantial portion of work and the workforce to move beyond the confines of a traditional office.

Robots, automation, and software can now replace people and perform various functions at workplace. It is common for digitally connected professionals to perform some of their work in cafés or shops, at home, etc. Computers are replacing most of the blue collar jobs creating fear of loss of a job.  For example, there are washing machines, dish washers that can help in our laundries and dish washing, rather than washing with our hands. The use of the machine increases the efficiency and performance by eliminating human errors and risk factor. This destroys jobs for unskilled labor.

Also, the pace of technological advancement in the society is so drastic that it is unable for workers to keep track of it. There are new technological innovations daily. Many organizations now send messages via email and other platforms to various places and part of the world rather than visiting people or places before messages can be delivered.

The impact of technology on our life is integrating rapidly and it has raised the concern that it can replace various jobs most especially that of the unskilled employ. So, to keep pace with technology the working people need to have more flexibility in work and be a lifelong learner. This is because, new technology has a great impact on job opportunities.
